Bennett Cox’s MAAC Rookie of the Week performance wasn’t enough to prevent a sweep by James Madison.
Cox batted an impressive .417 over the weekend, and Head Coach Matt Mazurek said he “was not surprised” by the freshman’s performance, based off of the work that he has put in over the offseason and the preseason.
After the series against the Dukes, the Griffs are looking at what they can improve. “We gave them too many free opportunities on bases,” explained Coach Mazurek on Wednesday. The Griffs plan to lean on the “best players available,” he emphasized, including Cox, Trent Rumley and JC Spinosa. While “three or four guys cemented their name in that lineup, we have five or six other spots for guys to take advantage of.”
Canisius takes on NC State this Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. on Doak Field at Dail Park.
