Buffalo’s Best Valentine’s Day Spots

By Mia Draksic, Features Contributor

Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with a partner, friends or family, there’s

something for every group in Buffalo. The city is rich with hidden gems that are destined to

make your Feb. 14 that much sweeter.

When it comes to dining out, you’re definitely not cut short in Buffalo. One popular destination is the Remington Tavern. The building has been around since 1895. Beginning as a trolley barn, it’s now been transformed into a spacious, industrial restaurant with a casual atmosphere. They offer a vast seafood and steak menu alongside a relaxing view of the canal. Though, if you’re craving a casual night in instead, Franco’s offers heart-shaped pizza. They are made year round but are far more popular this time of year. According to WGRZ, Franco’s does about 1,000 heart shaped pizzas every Valentine’s Day.

King Condrell’s is a Kenmore classic that’s been in business since the 1960s. The shop is lined with an array of sweets, including anything from Buffalo’s iconic sponge candy to chocolate-covered oreos, melt-away fudge and loganberry suckers. Once you’re done browsing the treats, you can sit down for a sundae. Despite the February chill, it’s hard not to crave their homemade whipped cream and endless collection of toppings. Wrapped up in the retro ambiance, it makes for the perfect post-dinner outing.

To end the night, consider heading to the Botanical Garden’s “Love Week.” They offer

admission throughout the day to view the greenhouse, and the “Gardens After Dark” event is the perfect spot for a Valentine’s Day photoshoot. They hold daily events from Feb. 13 to the 19, starting off with Galentine’s Day, offering dessert waffles from Wonder Coffeehouse and unique local vendors. The week continues with four course meals, love is love night and more, ensuring that there’s something for everyone.

If the typical Valentine’s Day events aren’t your scene, Chrusciki Bakery’s “Anti-

Valentine's Day Cookie Decorating” may be up your alley. In this class, you will be provided with six premade cookies that you can decorate with royal icing however you desire. An instructor will be present to teach techniques. So, whether you want to be creative or learn a new skill, they have something in store for you. Afterwards, you can take the cookies home to share with others or keep all to yourself.
