The Canisius University acrobatics and tumbling team split their first tri meet against the Buffalo State Bengals and No. 8 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders on March 20. The Griffs finished ahead of the Bengals (211.730) with a score of 222.870, but fell short of the Crusaders, who had a final score of 258.300.
After starting the season strong with three consecutive wins with scores over 230.000, the Griffs have had difficulty keeping their momentum in the past two meets. The team lost to Quinnipiac 263.435–208.735 on March 15, and have not broken the 230.000 mark since. Despite this, the team saw several program high scores in the compulsory, pyramid and acro events, showcasing the effort that the team has been putting in behind the scenes to upgrade their skills and consistently improve.
Junior base and tumbler Nadia Roberts remarked that the team “had a great first half and then went into the second half and had some mistakes happen. It was tough, but I believe we handled it well as a team, finished strong and continued to fight for points.” Maintaining energy was a big concern for the team, as the addition of another team to a match could’ve made it go much longer, but this did not create any issues for the team. Looking forward, Roberts notes that the team is staying positive heading into the final meet, saying, “We have achieved some really great things as a new team, and I want to enjoy the last meet with this inaugural team and finish strong.”
The Griffs now turn their attention to finishing strong with the final match of their inaugural season against No. 9 Gannon on April 9 at 6 p.m. inside the Koessler Athletic Center.
