This week in Senate: Cabinet appointees confirmed

The Undergraduate Student Association (USA) Senate confirmed its speaker, vice speaker and cabinet appointments for the 2021-22 Senate during its meeting on Monday.


Sophomore Marissa Brandel was appointed again as speaker. She served as speaker for the 2020-21 Senate. Freshman Jahare Hudson was appointed as vice speaker.


Juniors Jasmine Thomas, Ashley Kekeien and Sydney Carlo will return to chair the Diversity Board, J.U.S.T.I.C.E Committee and Student Interest Committee, respectively.


As junior Alyssa Deacon was elected as USA president, sophomore Anna Ziemba will serve as chair of the Public Health Committee. Deacon formerly served in the role.


Finally, junior Alisa Slawinski will chair the Sustainability Committee, recently vacated by junior Zoe Kaminski who was elected as USA vice president in this spring’s elections.


All of the recommendations were confirmed by a majority vote of senators.


The Senate adjourned for the last meeting of the semester and will go on hiatus until its annual summer meeting in July.
