In a response to President Steve Stoute of Canisius University’s “Answer the Call” initiative, many renovations have been made around campus to engage students, create sustainable options, reimagine campus and continue to encourage a sense of community on campus.
The Smoothie Lab opened on Jan. 15, 2024, the first day of classes in the 2024 spring semester. The newly built lab has replaced what was formerly Shoppe 120, located in the basement of Palisano.
Alongside updates to come this summer and the school’s recent transition from being a college to a university, the new eatery on campus is just one representation of the remodeled look of Canisius University.
The inside of the Smoothie Lab features new counter space, kitchen tools and menu items that were built into the reconstruction of the former Shoppe 120. Shoppe 120 previously sold smoothies, ice cream and other treats.
At the Smoothie Lab, students can order a variety of smoothies, acai bowls, milkshakes and add-ons including protein powder, granola, extra toppings and extra fruit. Coolers outside of the Smoothie Lab hold boxed and wrapped foods, as well as the drinks that students can purchase, similar to the food that is available at the newly renovated Market, as well.
On Jan. 5, an email was also sent out to members of the Canisius community asking them to participate in the naming of the Smoothie Lab. The person whose name of choice is selected will be rewarded with extra Griff Bucks.
The Smoothie Lab’s first customer, freshman, Lauren Matyka told The Griffin that her overall review and rating of the Smoothie Lab was an 8.5 out of 10. She shared that it was “very flavorful and tasty. I would recommend the Fusion Smoothie and would definitely go again!”
The Smoothie Lab is open from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m, Monday through Friday.
