Canisius College’s Student Programming Board (SPB) announced that Steve Burns, who played Steve on the children’s television program “Blue’s Clues” from 1996 to 2006, will be a guest speaker at Canisius this year.

A form was sent out to students to vote on a speaker in early February. Within a month, contact started between Director of Student Engagement Jason Francey and Steve Burns. Terms were agreed upon promptly, and the event was confirmed by March 3.

For free admission into the event, students will be able to collect a ticket at the Student Engagement and Leadership Development (S.E.L.D.) office once classes resume after spring break. Students will only be allowed one ticket each, which will be redeemable by swiping your Griff Pass in the S.E.L.D. office.

SPB will be holding a week of events in anticipation of Steve Burns’s presentation. The programming will include a viewing of “Blue’s Clues” in the Quad on Monday, “Blue’s Clues” trivia on Tuesday, Grocery Bingo on Wednesday and a Thursday in the Quad to round off the week. SPB Chair Emmalee Sekuterski noted that the board left Friday event-free so as to not interfere with the drag show put on by Unity that day and to encourage students to attend.

Francey noted his excitement for the event, saying, “I overlap with you all — I grew up with Steve; you guys grew up with Steve. It’s a collective nostalgia for us.” Steve Burns will be presenting at 7 p.m., tentatively, on April 23 in Montante.
