The Elephant in the Room

By: Briana Wasil

To the Elephant in the Room:

I’m sorry it took me so long to address you;

You see it wasn’t you I was trying to avoid

But the hundred other creatures I had to nurture before they escaped still injured for good

Yes, they say there’s an elephant that weighs

down the room

But the thing about elephants is that they’re supposed to be

large enough to spot

Heavytocarry

And

e a s y

to

track down

And yet it feels impossible to notice the elephant in the room with a thousand other critters taking up your time and space in the zoo

There’s only one zookeeper and no postings til the signs get made

So now I come back to the elephant in the room;

And it feels less scary to know that there’s only one of you and one of me

You’ll take longer to nurture and set free

And during that time there will certainly be more visitors

But, it’s not so hard when I’m just addressing

The elephant in the room.
